Welcome to Open House!

I just wanted to thank you for coming to our Open House. Here at Dirksen we want to build a relationship between home and school. We want to know our students and those who care for them. I have been so blessed over the last few days to not only get to know my students, but you as well through our emails and the survey.
Please take a moment to give me some feedback on the Open House. What did you like? What could we do to improve? What about our classroom- is it inviting, does your child like working on the computers here? Would you like to leave a message to your child that they can read when they come in class next?

August 30 Journal

1. What is one thing that you would like to teach someone else? Explain.




2. Imagine that you could communicate with any one animal. Which animal would you choose? Write a CONVERSATION that takes place between the two of you. HMMM...I wonder which animal Mrs. Machota would choose?

2. Pretend that you're a monkey in the zoo and you spot some children eating a banana. Explain what you would do to get their attention and persuade them to give you the banana.

August 28 Journal

Choose 1 prompt to respond to. Remember you must have good conventions. Don't forget when read to publish post, click on other and type in your first name, last initial, and grade level.

1. Imagine that you are taking your brand-new surfboard into the ocean for the first time. As you are paddling out to catch the waves, you realize that your surfboard has special powers. Write about your experiences with your magic surfboard.


2. What is one item you think all students should have when heading back to school? Explain.

August 27 Journal Topic

Choose one of the journal topics to respond to. Please copy and paste the journal topic of your choice to the beginning of your post.

1. Pretend you have been invited to travel with the circus for a week. What kind of performer would you choose to be? What happens on your first night in front of the crowd?



2. What do you like most about your personality? Explain.

Daily Journaling Expectations

Everyday you will be expected to respond to one of the daily journal topics. You will be receiving points for each post you make. By the end of the quarter you should have made 21 journal posts. Be sure that you have written in full sentences and you have checked your spelling before posting since everyone in class will see what you have written. Check back on your post the following day because you don't know if I, or someone else, will respond. Have fun with you journaling :-)
